  1. There does seem to be an increasing drive towards open access research, which is no bad thing as far as I’m concerned. There was a series of articles published on the BBC and newspapers (http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2012/apr/22/academic-publishing-monopoly-challenged) which highlighted the pressure brought by government, academics and leading funders (e.g. Wellcome Trust) on the academic publishers. Unfortunately, most of the leading journals are not going wholly open access but are only releasing their ‘back catalogues’ with rolling walls of access. I think more and more journals are moving a solely electronic publishing rather than traditional print based media.
